 The purpose of
 Dance Masters of Michigan
 is to-
 

  • Elevate the art and science of dance.

  • Promote the welfare of dance educators in a manner
    auxiliary but entirely independent of any and all
    national or international dance educators'
    organizations without interfering with the efforts of
    any other organization or association.

  • Establish and maintain a uniform method of instruction
     among dance educators.

  • Enable teachers to meet and promote the mutual
    interests and fraternal cooperation of its members.

  • Aid young dancers and dance educators by awarding
    educational dance scholarships.

To become a member
         a Teacher must-

  • complete a membership application.

    VIP Junior Membership requirements                              

    • Applicants must reach the age of 14 or not exceed the age of 25 by December 31st of the current year.

    • Applicant must be a student of a DMM member in good standing

    • Applicant must be nominated by a DMM member in good standing.

    • Applicant must have completed at least two years of dance training with a DMM member in good standing.

    • Applicants must submit:
          a) completed Junior Membership application form
          b) a brief resume
          c) an essay explaining why the applicant would like to become a junior member and what he/she would like to gain from membership.
          d) annual dues of $25 (checks accepted from member teachers only, made payable to DMM).

    Membership Benefits

    • A junior DMM Membership certificate and membership card.

    • Free lunch at Fall Convention.

    • Opportunity to attend special classes offered with educational material for the purpose of developing informed dancers and teachers. 

    • You will become a more well-rounded dancer and more prepared to be a student teacher.

    • Members may purchase DMA Manuals to prepare for exams.

    Membership Responsibilities
       
    Members shall aid at annual DMM events as needed.  Duties may include:
          Assistance with music at conventions, distribution of trophies & awards, assisting as ushers/usherettes for competition, and runners for DMM members.

        To remain a member in good standing, members must:

    • attend a minimum of one DMM Junior Membership meeting each year

    • aid at a minimum of one DMM event.

    Meetings and events for 2011-2012 are tentatively set for Oct. 8, Nov. 12, Fall Convention Nov. 19 & 20, Jan. 21, Feb. 4, Solo Title Feb. 10, 11,12, March 10, PAC March 16, 17, 18 and a fun event in either May or June.shall be held twice annually. Members may participate in events and educational workshop topics including but not limited to:
    music theory, choreography, costuming, nutrition, dance history, teaching young children, syllabus reviews, and special classes like Modern, Turns & Hip Hop by master teachers.

    COME TO OUR FIRST INFORMATIONAL MEETING ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2011 FROM 1:00 TO 3:00 P.M. AT THE AMERICAN DANCE ACADEMY, 3132 Martin Road  Commerce Twp., MI 48390.
    The DMM Junior Membership Advisor will be an active DMM member in good standing
     
    Applications must be postmarked by December 1, 2011.  Mail completed Junior Membership application, resume, essay and $25 membership fee (check or money orders payable to DMM member/teacher will be accepted) to:

  • Study the Dance Masters of America
    Manual for each dance subject they teach.
  • Pass a written and demonstrated exam.

    You can either take your teachers exam at the
 local level, or take it through Dance Masters of
 America's Teachers Training School.


Membership dues are $160 per year,
which includes your

  • Dance Masters of Michigan dues
  • Dance Masters of America dues
  • Fall Workshop fees
  • Admission to Solo-Titled Events
    (with your membership card)

      Members also receive discounted rates on their
 early licensing fees from ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC.
